Supporting and believing in yourself is arguably one of the most beneficial skills to master. We won’t re-write narratives over night… but every intention and thought in the right direction helps support and heal our relationships with ourselves.
I don't know about you, but I spent many many years insecure and harshly critical to myself. After my youngest was born, I was struggling more than ever with insecurities and body image discomfort on a scale I’d never imagined. I was even insecure about the part that used to make me feel more confident!
I knew I had a choice to make- suffer and hate myself, or attempt to neutralize that mean bully in my mind. I realized I alwasy tend to look back fondly, why should I waste the NOW diminishing the experience?! I started by THANKING my body. For my health, for my children, for carrying me through life and protecting me. I started to look myself in the eye and whisper sweet nothings.
*You are beautiful just as you are, you are capable, you are worthy*
Even if I didn't believe them yet, I was starting to rewire parts of my brain to become familiar with this foreign territory. *You deserve love, safety and respect- even from yourself. Prioritizing your needs isn’t selfish. I have your back, no matter what*
I was taking back authority of my experiences. Writing new narratives and scripts for myself. Empowered ones, supportive and loving ones.
When I heard the harsh critic pop in, I’d correct her. “That was harsh, [insert this more neutral/accurate perspective]. I began to recognize this as NOT ME, but my fear speaking. I welcomed it with compassion, while disarming it with gentle validation and correction. “I’m doing my best… I am struggling today… I am STILL worthy of love and respect from myself”
I have long loved the saying “my body is my temple”, but I really started to act like it. Self-care wasn’t just a nice thing… it was teaching myself that my body deserves nourishment. I deserve to feel vibrant and strong. I deserve to feel pampered and special. I deserve to take CARE of this sacred vessel I’ve been gifted in this life. I no longer wanted to take that for granted.
So instead, I try to embody loving myself in every moment along the way of creating a wildly full and rewarding life!
I wanted to change the tide, and I did. You can too… it wont happen over night but with steady commitment and gentle curiosity you can find trust and security in yourself and your body again.
My deepest wish for you is that you can discover the transformative power of loving yourself they ways in which that ripples out into every facet of your life! <3 XO, Amanda
